May 22, 2005 - Holy Trinity Sunday

  • FATHER'S PAGE

Dear Parishioners:

One of the foundational truths of our faith is the one God in three Persons: Father all-poweful, Christ Lord and Saviour, Spirit of Love. We can reason our way into knowledge of the existence of God, but we would never know of God as Trinity if it were not revealed to us.

There is much else about God that has been revealed: about God as giver of life, land and food; about God as liberator and protector; about the God of peace and the God of covenant love; about the suffering God, the God of the poor; about the God made flesh, the God with us.

None of this comes from reason, although it does not contradict reason. Most of what we know about God we know because God has revealed it to us. On this Trinity Sunday, it would be good to reflect on the God of our faith and worship. Do we honour the God of revelation, or do we honour a god of own own making? Do we honour the vengeful god of a merciless world, or do we honour the Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity?

In His goodness and wisdom, God chose to reveal Himself and to make known to us the hidden purpose of His will by which through Christ, the Word made flesh, man has access to the Father in the Holy Spirit and comes to share in the divine nature. Through this revelation, therefore, the invisible God out of the abundance of His love speaks to men as friends and lives among them, so that he may invite and take them into fellowship with Himself."

  • REMINDER...NEIGHBOURHOOD TRAFFIC PLAN MEETING

Everyone is invited to attend the meeting on Tuesday, May 24 at 9:30 am in the City Hall Council Chambers.

The City needs to know that we are opposed to this attempt to change the Council Policy covering the 2004 Survey and the diversionary traffic calming measures. The more people show up at this meeting the better the chance of our side being heard and our position being respected.

  • THANK YOU NICO CUCCA!

On the 6th of May 2005, 10 year old Nico from our SFA School sent invitations to his friends to come to the parish hall for a Birthday celebration.

Nico's invitation to his friends said something like this: "If fear is not a factor, then come to my Fear Factor Party." Obviously, the theme is patterned after the famous TV programme, Fear Factor. But the most remarkable part of the invitation is the line that said, "no gifts except non-perishable food items for St. Vincent de Paul."

Everyone had fun at Nico's Birthday party and 2 big boxes full of canned goods and non-perishable food items were collected for our parish St. Vincent de Paul.

Thanks Nico, and God Bless you!
